Irish Springs CGI

Brief

We were asked to recreate a selection of real places in CGI for our client Irish Springs.

Creative Solution

Pixteur built out all the the CGI environments. The scenes were first created in previz to block out the main forms and get client approvals on the composition. Once we were had an approved layout direction we went about modeling the scene in detail.

Each image was a completely different beast so we constantly adapted our landscape environment workflow. Most images were built and framed based on stock photo mashups that served as a base composition and inspiration. We camera projected this in 3D space and build simple 3D spaces to match. Certain scenes we used drone footage as a photogrammetry datapoint to build the exact shapes of the real environment. Other scenes were build procedurally in houdini or in Gaea to generate icebergs or mountains. After we artistically embellished the scenes with additional modeling, sculpting and texturing.

The grasses and flowers were made from 3D scans of real plants. We built complex distribution systems to create biomes and scattered them with various CG tools.

Many images required water, so we leveraged Phoenix FD to simulate fog, oceans, rivers, waterfalls and spray. This was a computationally heavy part of the project but really helped integrate the liquids into the environments.
