COVID-19 Viral Planet
Brief
These illustrations depict the distressing state of our human condition during the COVID-19 pandemic while the virus overtakes the planet. It’s early 2020 and all of humanity currently faces a viral pandemic of unprecedented proportions. Day and night on the four corners of the globe, the impact is heart-wrenching.
For all of you who have lost loved ones, who suffer, who cry out. We think of you.
These human forms illustrate the physical and emotional distress many people feel as a result of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. These forms resemble the Spike Glycoproteins on virus illustrations we have all seen in the news.
Creative Solution
We worked with 86k resolution Earth DEM data in order to make our CG planet. The human forms were posed and scattered about across the surface to emulate parts of the virus. We scattered more viral bits spreading over the surface of the planet taking over.
The atmosphere was made from several spheres and falloff shaders that reacted to our sun’s position. The night lights were also rigged as part of this system to simulate proper day and night.
We rendered in Redshift at 12k and did post work creating the star field and lens effects in post.
